Well there are a number of options open to you. The most extreme would be to move to a bigger house. However this can be quite expensive. The daily Telegraph reported that the average cost of moving house in the UK is around £ 15,000 with the East Midlands coming in at just over £ 9,000. That’s’ for your stamp duty and legal fees, never mind the cost of the bigger house.
You could look at a loft extension. Again very possible and cost effective – A bit more disruption within the house, but at least you’ll be creating more space.
Our preferred option would be to build a garden office. Not a shed, but a properly built, robust, insulated building which will give you years of service, give you a fantastic space to work from and also add value to your house.
Most garden offices can be built under permitted development, which means they do not require planning permission. Also If they are not intended for a habitable space or below 15m2 they do not require building regulations. (just the electrics need signing off by a qualified electrican)
If you are running a business, why not let it buy the building as a fully allowable, tax deductible business expense.
